Methods to support trade union transformation: the Power Resources Approach

With the "Trade Unions in Transformation" project, FES aims at shifting the narrative about trade unions: Contrary to conventional wisdom, unions do have agency and power, which comes in different forms and shapes.

The "Power Resources Approach" identifies four types of power unions can draw from. It is presented here by internationally renowned and distinguished labour scholar Prof. Emeritus Edward Webster, followed by a discussion. The aim is to provide a useful tool for analysing and shaping processes of union renewal and revitalisation.
